The Music And County Clare
P J MurrihyI have always loved the jigs and reels since I first heard Din Joe
Ay and Ciarán Mac Mathúna on the old Pye radio
And I heard it said one hundred times from Dingle to Kildare
Go north for spuds and south for a wife, for music to County Clare
The Kilfenora Céilí Band are around for a century
And they’ve played their way through two world wars around this country
With the famous start that Kitty gave, they raised the rafters high
The Kilfenora Céilí Band are Clare’s own pride and joy
The Willie Clancy Summer School’s the greatest of them all
And they flock to Miltown Malbay from Japan to Montreal
With the magic sound of pipes and fiddles ringing everywhere
The jigs and reels flow freely in the good old County Clare
Within the Banner County there’s another famous band
And like the Kilfenora there’s a touch of a master’s hand
With the two taps on the old turf box, the dancers take the floor
As the Tulla Céilí Band strike up The Bucks of Oranmore
That’s why I always loved the jigs and reels since I first heard Din Joe
Ay and Ciarán Mac Mathúna on the old Pye radio
And I heard it said one hundred times from Dingle to Kildare
Go north for spuds and south for a wife, for music to County Clare
