What does aroo mean?

In reading "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye" lyrics, I came across the word I've been trying to define for a long time! In all the lyrics, it says, "athy, aroo, haroo" - are these just rhymes, or does aroo mean something specific? It is an exclamation, or a greeting? Thanks so much for bothering with this!

Actually 'Athy' is a placename in Co Kildare.
The rest is nonsense syllables chosen for their rythem like 'shooby dooby do'
