Searching For A Song

Hi, i'm hoping someone on the site can help me. i heard this song being sung by a band (whose name i've only guessed at, and found nothing) who were preforming at the recovery party at Gillhoolies (Chermside, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) and at the time i was slightly distact by my oysters and my alcohol, so didn't pay as much attention as i should have, and its now driving my nuts! i have Googled non stop for the last three days without success, so i'm going to post all i can remember about the tune below and hope that someone can help me.

Theme: the song was about a girl whose father wanted her to marry a rich gentelmen who happened to ride by and spot her. he asked for her hand. she refused as she loved another (i think). her father then orders her to marry the gentelman and be at the church with a smile on her wedding day, the coming sunday. she is found sunday morning in the village creek dead (ie, she drowned herself). also, she has blonde/golden hair

" Step it up [my daughter?], oh
Step it up [for me?].
Step it up [my daughter?]
Show you legs to the [country man?]

then comes the part about her refusing and saying she loves another, her father then tells her she'll marry the rich bloke and have a smile about her while she does it

oh, i just remembered, i think [? of the golden hair] and the poor man she's inlove with drown themselves together.

anyway, thankyou in advance for any replies to my slightly scattered tale.

Sigh. I suppose its typical that the last website you look at is the one that you actually find the song on. i've added it below for your viewing pleasure (and my piece of mind!).

Step It Out Mary.

In the Village of Kildoran lived a maiden young and fair
Her eyes, they shone like diamonds, she had long and golden hair,
the countryman came riding up to her daddy`s gate,
mounted on a milk-white stallion, he came at the stroke of eight

Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
step it out Mary if you can.
Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
show your legs to the countryman.

I have come to court your daughter. Mary of the golden hair,
I have gold and I have silver, I have lands beyond compare.
I will buy her silks and satins and a gold ring for her hand.
I will buy her a mansion, she'll have servants to command

Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
step it out Mary if you can.
Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
show your legs to the countryman.

Oh kind Sir I have a soldier and I`ve pledged to him my hand.
I don`t want your gold nor silver,
I don`t want your horse nor land."
Mary`s father Spoke up sharply, you will do as you are told,
you`ll mary him on sunday and you`ll wear the ring of gold."

Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
step it out Mary if you can.
Step it out Mary, my fine daughter,
show your legs to the countryman.

In the village of Kildoran there`s a deep stream running by.
They found Mary there on sunday,
she had drowned with her soldier boy.
In the cottage there is music, you can hear her daddy say
Step it out Mary my fine daughter,
sunday is your wedding day.

lol. oh well, maybe you can add it to the site?
