Eriskay Love Song What do the first words mean?
Quote from patti on December 3, 2008, 11:19 pmIn about 1953 someone at our school sang this lovely song but I never found out what the Gaelic/Scottish/Irish words at the beginning mean. Phonetically it goes Fair me oh oh roveno, Fair me oh oh rovenee, Fair me oh ruoho, Sad am I without thee. I've Googled it and got all the verses but was never convinced about the various translations of the Gaelic. Can anyone please help with this?

the song seems to me to be 'Bheir mé Ó' or 'Bheir mé Oró'. You'll find the lyrics (also phonetically), a translation and an audio clip of the tune at http://www.irishpage.com/songs/bheirmeo.htm You're right a beautiful tune...enjoy
