Quote from DavidMcGrath on February 6, 2006, 5:17 amThanks Mike from Boston. The site you noted looks terrific. I'm interested in traditional Irish music, old ballads, rebel songs, especially from West Cork. If any musicians/groups are named Sullivan I'd be particularly interested in hearing their music.

Quote from admin on February 7, 2006, 8:14 pmHi Patrick
There's a singer from Cork named Jimmy Crowley that should be good. I haven't heard him myself, but that's what I've been told.
Other artists I can recommend are North Cregg, Jackie Daly and Sean O'Driscoll. What they do are mainly dance tunes. But all damn good!
with kind regards
Pete

Quote from DavidMcGrath on February 8, 2006, 2:10 amThanks to both Mike and Pete,
Mike, there are a lot of tunes I like, Wearin' O' The Green, Irish Soldier Laddie, Come Out Yet Black and Tans, but also Finnegan's Wake, The Wild Rover, I'll Tell Me Ma, Whiskey in the Jar, Are Ye Right There Michael, really far too many to list them all.
Pete, thanks for the names. I'll do a search for them to learn more. I made my first trip to Ireland last June/July and it was breathtaking, from Shannon on south round up to Dublin on CIE tour. Loved the Kerry/West Cork area the most...home of my ancestors more than 150 years ago. The Mariners Bar south of Dublin was really cool with owner/singer Christie who does a great rendition of "The River Is Wide." I bought his CD. I plan to return in 07 and focus on Kerry and Cork off the beaten path, especially around Bantry up to Macroom. Will do more of my Sullivan family history research. Wonderful people, beautiful country.
